Workouts without machines, possible from your own home! Fitness
One of the top questions I get while traveling/performing is what is my training/workout regime. Im not going to lie to you, truly I believe a big percent of staying fit is inherited good genes in most cases, thats not to say people don't put the hard work in. I personally do not spend multiple hours in a gym and I also am not obsessive with my diet, everything in moderation. However, I do put training hours in, that fits my needs. If you have access to a gym awesome if not “no sweat,” it is still possible to get a good work out in from your own home. I personally do all my workouts without machines or weights, I just prefer to use my own body weight to train. Push-ups, Sit-ups, leg lifts/lunges, incorporate a yoga ball in the mix, multiple reps, and enough time mixing up the exercises, trust me you will be sweating and toning muscle in no time. As an aerialist I highly recommend “hang time,” or so what I like to call it. Find anything sturdy enough to hold your weight (safety first, please make sure it is stable and strong enough to hold you, we have all seen those youtube fails and do not want to be a part of that.) Once you established something sturdy to hang, literally just hang, hold your own weight. Once you feel you can hold your weight long enough, little by little add motion while hanging, start to move your legs around, try to shrug your shoulders. The goal is to try and hang as long as you can hold with range of motion. Eventually you will upgrade to lifting legs, and full range of pull-up motion. It takes time it doesn't happen over night. Before I was an aerialist, I couldn't even hold myself on the bottom of a rope, honestly, let alone coordinate climbing and eventually staying there and doing trick after trick. These things take time, do not get discouraged. It took me 6 months to a year with multiple hours training everyday to achieve results. But If you really are dedicated and put in a little everyday it will only get easier, I promise. I feel hang time training is the best as you are engaging every muscle, some that you really can not work with machines or ground training. So yes, the aerialist encourages being in the air to tone your muscles! I am also a huge fan of yoga, dance, fitness, zumba, acro, aerial, and stretch classes, these are my goto-s. You get a great mix of workout including cardio, strength train, flexibility as well as a spiritual/emotional connection which I truly feel is necessary! So for those non gym goers check your local studios for what fits your needs, you really might find something great as well as a supportive group to share the journey with! Even gather a group of friends and invite them over to have your own group workout, or solo if you prefer but remember ever little bit helps. I attached a short video of some of my training, hopefully might help some of you who do not like the gym atmosphere, to try some of the exercise in the comfort of your own home. I really like to change up my training with different exercises and stretches from day to day to keep things exciting and fresh, so the video only includes a few of my faves. However feel free to reach out and ask me questions about anything in particular, Im here to help encourage and motivate you! Happy workout/training days ahead!
