Funchal, Madeira (Portugal) Adventure 1.0

Today’s adventure is in The Port of Funchal (the only major port of Madeira.) Funchal is the capital city of Portugal’s Madeira Archipelago. Its backed by hills, and known for its harbor, gardens, and wine cellars. It is also the birthplace of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese professional football player. I decided to walk to the city from the port which took only about 15 minutes, to meet with a group of friends for brunch. One friend mentioned a place called Kon Tiki Restaurant, (R. Carvalho Araujo 158A 9000-022, 9000-099 Funchal, Portugal.) where they serve some of the best Filet Mignon for a very inexpensive price. Not to mention the best part is “STEAK on a ROCK,” you get to cook it yourself as rare or well done as you like. (Actually the best part might be the white sangria;) After the lovely meal, I wandered around the city, stopping first at the Presidential Palace Garden (which was only a quick walk from the restaurant.) It cost one euro to enter and worth it just to see the beautiful landscape and how well maintained they keep it, also there is a stunning picturesque photo opportunity of the island inside the gates of the palace. I then continued my adventure towards the city center to explore some local shops and take some beautiful pictures along the way. (See video for more- Statue Princess Sisi, Casino Madeira, Gardens, and other interesting sites.) Funchal is also known for the cobblestone Portuguese pavement arranged in patterns, like mosaic, so be sure to look down every now and then while walking! This city has friendly locals, walkable streets, and inexpensive taxi rides, its a great vacation spot to visit!
