Hassan II Mosque- Casablanca, Morocco Adventure

Todays adventure is back in The Port of Casablanca, Morocco. As I mentioned in a previous post, I would be back to visit this city a few times and would continue the exploring. So todays adventure took me to the Hassan II Mosque. This mosque is the largest in Morocco, and 13th largest in the world. Its Minaret is the worlds tallest at 689 feet (210 meters). The minaret is 60 stories high topped by a laser, the light that is directed towards Mecca. The Mosque rises above and overlooks the atlantic ocean. The walls are hand-crafted marble and the roof is retractable. A maximum of 105, 000 worshippers can gather for prayer here, 25,000 inside and 80,000 outside. It is interesting to think it cost $750 million to build and was financed directly from moroccans themselves, every family was obligated to pay a minimum amount in exchange for a certificate of donation. I have heard the prayer hall is on the ground level, and the central hall provides spectacular underwater views, with glass floors, of the Atlantic Ocean. However as it was Saturday, there are specific hours to enter inside, as well as some restrictions for women. So I did not get to view from within, but still beautiful to observe from the outside and another must see travel attraction checked off my list. Please check out my attached video to see some highlights!
